How to set up a monthly spread?

One of the essential elements of a bullet journal is the monthly spread. In this blog post, we'll dive into what monthly spreads are, what they typically look like, and how you can customize them to suit your unique style and needs.

What are monthly spreads?

A monthly spread helps you get a bird's-eye view of your month ahead, allowing you to jot down important events, deadlines, and to-dos. Think of them as a snapshot of your month's activities and goals, helping you stay on track and plan for what's coming up.

What does a monthly spread look like?

The main component of a monthly spread is the calendar of the month with grids large enough to write down whatever important dates and events you need to note down.

Note: Always have the month, year, days and dates on the page to make it easier to plan and reference dates!

What can you add to a monthly spread?

If you have some goals lined up for the upcoming month, like reading 4 books or doing meditation twice a week, writing these down along with your monthly calendar is a great idea. That way you can make sure you’re staying on track with your goals each time you glance at your calendar.

Pro tip: Writing down important goals somewhere you’ll frequently be looking is a great way to ingrain it into your subconscious mind and automatically move towards achieving your goal!

Here are some examples of additional sections to add to your monthly spread:

  • Goals / Plan

  • Intentions

  • Looking forward to

  • Gratitude
