Many a times, I have stumbled upon a charming little store with a sign that read: "Stationery supplies on sale!" Naturally, I couldn't resist the temptation and decided to check it out. But let me tell you, the only things on sale were some unknown brands. However, despite their quirks, they were undeniably cute. So, against my better judgment, I gave in and bought them. Turns out, they were hiccuping and spluttering machines rather than reliable tools to fill up a page. Now, they've found their forever home as decor. Too adorable to toss but utterly useless.
And thatβs why I put together this starter tools set for you. These are some of my favourite supplies that I have been going back to again and again. They may not be cute, but they are most definitely functional!
TOOLS
Mini journal

Pencil
When you're planning out your layout or adding some doodles to your journal, start with a pencil first. That way, you can easily make changes and adjustments to your design without worrying about any permanent marks.
You can experiment with different ideas and refine your work until you're happy with the final result. Once you're satisfied with your sketch, you can confidently go over it with a marker or pen.
Kneadable art eraser
This art eraser is a must-have! It's super handy for making changes to your pencil sketches without messing up the paper or leaving any residue. Plus, you can mold it into any shape you need, so it's perfect for erasing specific areas. It's made of high-quality materials that are gentle on the paper but still get the job done.
Fineliner Pens
These are Tombow brand, water-based fine-tip markers. Use these pens to add outlines to your layout or write your journal entries. Once dried, the ink doesn't smudge, making it perfect to colour or highlight on top of.

Brush pen / Marker (in color)
This marker is also from Tombow. It has a brush tip on one end and a fine liner marker on the other side. The brush tip is great for colouring, shading or highlighting. The fine line marker is great for adding little details to decorate your layouts and it doesn't bleed through the page.
We've included a grey colour to match most themes/layouts that you may set up. But you can use any other colour you like to match the theme.
Brush Calligraphy pen
This is one of my favourite pens for brush lettering. It is from the brand Pentel and has a firm tip which gives you better control when writing. Use this pen to add headers or titles to your spreads.
Acrylic ruler
This ruler is a cute aid for drawing straight lines or cutting washi tape. It comes in handy to set up monthly grids and drawing boxes.
Sticker tweezer
Using a tweezer makes it easy to pick up stickers that are small and helps place them precisely where you want without tiring your fingers.
π PRO TIP!
Use the last page of your journal to swatch test all your pens along with the name of the pen to make it easier to choose which one to use for your spreads.
